Other Sites of the Next Generation Tools for Biology Group

The Next Generation Tools for Biology group is dedicated to the development of accessible enabling open source software for research and education in Biology and Biomedicine. Our other projects include the CIPRES portal for phylogenetic inference, the CIPRES software libraries, and the QBio laboratory data management software.

cipres portal

The CIPRES portal offers tools for phylogenetic tree inference. It is focused on high end users: individuals with large data sets who are limited by the computational power of their home resources. It offers tools based on likelihood, parsimony, and Bayesian analysis. The CIPRES portal is created by a collaboration of the NGTB group with several other institutions under the CIPRES project. The software development of this project was in partnership with Mark Holder and Peter Midford at the University of Kansas, and Rutger Vos at the University of British Columbia.

qbio

QBio is a nascent open source effort to create laboratory data management tools that are integrated with local and global resources. At present, the principal tool is BioPipes (formerly Symphony), a workflow management tool designed to help individuals at multiple sites coordinate their research. The package includes two other applications: DiscoveryView (information discovery and retrieval) and BioXL ( a dynamic spreadsheet for Biologists).
